Wayne Klinkel from Helena, Montana who works as a graphic designer for the Independent Record, the local newspaper, got into a serious predicament with his own dog Sundance. Klinkel’s unique one-eyed golden retriever Sundance once had for lunch a very expensive meal.

While the graphic designer and his wife were having lunch at a local restaurant, Sundance was left locked inside their car. In there the poor canine got extremely annoyed after being left all locked up and alone and therefore decided to have lunch by ingesting 5 banknotes of $100 each. The cash was hidden somewhere in the car’s boxlike compartment.
After discovering what Sundance had done, Wayne Klinkel decided to wait out for the dog to do his business and followed him everywhere he went meticulously picking up after him. He kept the plastic bag with the dog excrement frozen in the winter snow outside for months before finally deciding to act and attempt to retrieve the messed up cash.
Klinkel used an old metal mining screen, a hose and a bucket of soapy water to manually clean the remnants of the $100 bills. After successfully completing this messy process Klinkel went straight to the Federal Reserve in Helena but his request for reimbursement was unfortunately denied. He was then advised to contact the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Mutilated Currency Division. He duct taped the remnants and sent them inside an envelope to the department along with a notarized letter.
Although Klinkel did not expect anything to happen, 6 months after he had sent the letter he received a surprising $500 reimbursement check from the U.S. Department of Treasury.
