Maybe Tom Crist, aged 64, could have bought a yacht or a luxurious new private airplane when he discovered he had won one of Calgary’s biggest jackpots in history, but instead he decided to do something for the greater good and donate all his proceedings to charitable causes aimed at fighting cancer.
Crist’s own wife passed away from cancer last year when she was 57. The 64-year-old former CEO and his children are now inspired to donate the $40 million prize money to the Canadian Cancer Society as well as the Tom Baker Cancer Center where Crist’s wife was looked after. Crist stated in a public appearance that he is going to put the money in a family trust fund that will be used to fund a variety of charities chosen by him and his family.
The 64-year-old low-key man discovered about his lottery winnings while he was playing golf and did not tell a single person at first. He even continued playing after receiving the good news via phone call. Crist stated that he plays lottery online and he only subscribes once a year without even noticing what games and numbers he plays.
